In recent years, sustainability and climate change have become one of the main challenges companies face today, and for Grato, these two challenges are already embedded in its identity.
Together with the Forest and Wood Technology Center (CETEMAS) in Asturias, an opportunity arose to conduct a detailed study of its products, identifying the environmental impacts associated with their production. This was carried out within the framework of the project "Research on the combined application of environmentally sustainable coatings to improve the functional performance of high-end wooden flooring – Society for Regional Development of Cantabria S.A. – SODERCAN – Call for I + C = +C 2018-2020."
This certification provides Grato with a third-party verified communication mechanism that helps address environmental information requirements related to the life cycle of the company's products.
It also promotes transparency and enhances the brand’s competitiveness on an international level.
Beyond being a communication tool, this certificate also serves as a strategic competitiveness tool for the forestry and wood sector.
As a result of this project, in collaboration with CETEMAS, Grato has focused its efforts on measuring the environmental impacts of its wooden floors, with the carbon footprint of its materials being lower compared to other wood products.
This is mainly due to a reduction in material and energy consumption compared to other materials during extraction and production phases, making it the only material that absorbs carbon dioxide.
Grato wood is one of the most sustainable raw materials thanks to its sourcing processes, renewability, and recyclability.
